Colonial Reveries I

Brunswick Street Gallery, 2022

Mixed media on canvas, 106.6 x 106.6cm and 81 x 106.6cm.

Colonial Reveries I appropriates archival images of the 1947 Partition between India and Pakistan to investigate the relationship between art and colonial histories of violence in South Asia. Through palimpsest, erasure and effacement, the work renders an intergenerational response to inherited trauma in the aftermath of large-scaled communal violence.
